The first of the thirteen symphonic poems of Liszt – “Ce qu'on entend sur la montagne…” is based on the poem of Victor Hugo which contrasts the shapes of the great nature with those of the discrepant humanity. “Les Preludes” got its title from the poem of French romantic poet Alphonse de Lamartine. The basic of “Prometheus” is a dramatic poem of German philosopher-enlightener Johann Gottfried Herder.
The program for “Mephisto Waltz” – one of three compositions of the same title – consists of the episode in the country tavern from “Faust” of Austrian romantic Nicolaus Lenau.
The conductor of the concert will be People’s artist of the Russian Federation – Leonid Nikolaev. Nowadays he is a chief conductor of the Moscow Chamber Orchestra of Pavel Slobodkin’s Centre and of the Symphony Orchestra of the Moscow State Conservatory.
