Michael Voile received his education as a singer from Josef Metternich and Rudolf Piernay. He won prices at international competitions, e.g. the ÑIEÌ in Geneva and Neue Stimmen in Gütersloh.

1990 he started as a member of the National theater Mannheim. Following were contracts at opera houses in Bonn, Düsseldorf/Duisburg and Cologne. He is a member of the ensemble of the Opernhaus Zurich since 1999. From 2007/2008 he will be working at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich.

He is the 1st guest artist at the opera houses and festivals like e.g. Salzburg, Opera Bastille Paris, La Scala in Milano, Theatre de la Monnaie Bruxelles, Royal Opera House London, Deutsche Oper and Staatsoper Berlin, Hamburgische Staatsoper, Semperoper Dresden and the Staatsoper in Vienna.

In 2007 Michael will make his debut at the Bayreuther Festspiele as Sixtus Beckmesser in the upcoming staging of the „Meistersinger".

His repertoire goes from Mozart (Don Giovanni, Count Almaviva, Figaro, Guglielmo Papageno), Tchaikovsky (Onegin, Jeletzki), Humperdinck (Peter Besenbinder) over Wagner (Wolfram, Beckmesser, Amfortas, Gunther, Kurwenal, Hollander, Rheingold – Wotan), Verdi (Ford, Germont, Macbeth), Puccini (Marcello, Lescaut, Scarpia), Strauss (Mandryka, Barak, Jochanaan, Orest), Pfitzner (Morone), Debussy (Golaud), Lehar (Danilo) up to Britten (Billy Budd), Berg (Wozzeck, Dr.Schön) and Íånze (Pentheus).
Apart from his activity as opera singer he is singing regularly at the concert stage with works by Bach, Handel, Haydn, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Mahler, Schönberg and contemporary composers and performs numerous lieder recitals.

He is working with conductors like F.Welser-Möst, M. Janssons, B.Haitink, W. Sawallisch, R. Mutti, S.Ozawa, J. Levine, Chr. v.Dohnany, N.Harnoncourt, Z.Mehta, N.Santi, Tr.Pinnock, H.Rilling, Ph. Herreweghe, A.Pappano, S.Young, K. Nagano, F. Bernius, Th. Hengelbrock and Vladimir Fedoseyev.

Numerous TV-recordings (Mozart: Don Giovanni, Cosi fan tutte, Le nozze di Figaro; Strauss: Simplicius; Schubert: Fierrabras; Bellini: Beatrice di Tenda; Wagner: Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Parsifal; Debussy: Pelleas et Melisande; Schreker: Die Gezeichneten; Puccini: La Boheme), recordings with different radio stations and CD recordings (Bach: Passions of St. John and St. Matthew, Cantatas; Britten: War Requiem; Mendelssohn: Elias, Paulus; Schubert: Schwanengesang, As-Dur Messe; Mozart: Requiem; Brahms; Requiem, Schöne Magelone, Lieder; Strauss: Taillefer; Zemlinsky: Traumgörge, Orchesterlieder) are documents of his work.
